Brief biography of Cecil Edwards

Cecil Edwards was born in Molinere, St. George GRENADA. He attended the Happy Hill R.C primary school from 1942 -7 and unto the St. George’s R.C. Senior Boys School from 1948 – 54, under the late J.W. Fletcher as Headmaster. His first job after leaving school was at the Everybody’s Store on Halifax Street, the largest store in Grenada at that time, where he was employed as a clerk.
Cecil left Grenada for England in 1956, where he attended the Sheffield Polytechnic from 1956 – 59 studying Accounting, after graduating he worked at Bachelor’s Food from 1959-61 and the Sheffield Council Corporation from 1961 – 65.
Cecil returned to Grenada in 1965 and worked at Central Sales on Grenville and Granby Streets for a short while before returning to England in 1966, where he took up the post as Accounts Clerk at the Commission in the UK for the Eastern Caribbean Governments from 1966 -78. From 1979 1985 he was appointed first secretary at the High Commission office in London for Eastern Caribbean States, at the end of which assignment he returned to Grenada.
On his return to Grenada in 1985 Mr. Edwards worked with the Government of Grenada from 1985 – 1991 as Project Supervisor, of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) project, and as Acting Accountant General; and Comptroller of Inland Revenue from 1991 –1995. From his initial involvement with the Willie Redhead Foundation starting in 1998, Mr. Edwards was appointed ipso facto, as Treasurer, an executive position he holds up to today (2016).
Meanwhile from 2002 – 2003 and again from 2006 – 2009 Cecil was Executive Director of the Grenada Employers’ Federation. Cecil serves at present as Director on the following Boards: Tax Appeal Tribunal, the Aviation Services of Grenada and the Agency for Rural Transformation. Mr. Edwards was a former Board Member of the Grenada Breweries Ltd , Communal Co-operative Credit Union and Chairman of the National Insurance Investment Committee.
